Review
I had very high expectations on this perfume when I opened the packaging as the slender bottle and the colour of the contents excited me. But the smell unfortunately didn’t. I think the Estee Lauder youth dew perfume should be re-named ‘Vintage Dew’ as it smells quite vintage like the type of perfume your grandmother used to wear. The colour of the perfume looks thick and brown. I was a bit taken aback by its strength. It smells old-fashioned but I was not sure exactly what I could smell. After several hours the strength of the perfume mellowed and it smelt quite nice, like a warm amber with a hint of floral notes. I preferred the smell when it mellowed rather than the first spray. Even when the perfume mellowed, I could still smell it without having to move my wrist close to my nose. It’s a long-lasting scent so good for that reason.
I love the bottle more than the smell of perfume itself. It reminds me of a lady’s dress with a gold bow at the waist. The bottle was designed the same as their 1950’s original bath oil bottle.
The perfume contains linalool which has a calming effect which you gain a sense of when it has dried in the skin. The geraniol gives a slight rose undertones and is also a bug repellent as is also the citronellol, which is nice to know if you are wearing it for a garden party for example. I would suggest to spray the perfume on your skin leave it on your skin for a minute and then enter the room where other people are rather than spraying and entering immediately as some people may be put off by the strength of the initial smell. This however is just my opinion and yours may be totally different. I would however buy Youth Dew as a gift for a family member or a friend who likes strong perfume as it would make a nice gift due to the feminine potion-like bottle and its great price. The well-known beauty brand name also adds to the appeal as a nice gift regardless of the recipients age.
