Review

I had very high expectations on this perfume when I opened the packaging as the slender bottle and the colour of the contents excited me. But the smell unfortunately didn’t. I think the Estee Lauder youth dew perfume should be re-named ‘Vintage Dew’ as it smells quite vintage like the type of perfume your grandmother used to wear. The colour of the perfume looks thick and brown. I was a bit taken aback by its strength. It smells old-fashioned but I was not sure exactly what I could smell. After several hours the strength of the perfume mellowed and it smelt quite nice, like a warm amber with a hint of floral notes. I preferred the smell when it mellowed rather than the first spray. Even when the perfume mellowed, I could still smell it without having to move my wrist close to my nose. It’s a long-lasting scent so good for that reason.

I love the bottle  more than the smell of perfume itself. It reminds me of a lady’s dress with a gold bow at the waist. The bottle was designed the same as their 1950’s original bath oil bottle.

The perfume contains linalool which has a calming effect which you gain a sense of when it has dried in the skin. The geraniol gives a slight rose undertones and is also a bug repellent as is also the citronellol, which is nice to know if you are wearing it for a garden party for example. I would suggest to spray the perfume on your skin leave it on your skin for a minute and then enter the room where other people are rather than spraying and entering immediately as some people may be put off by the strength of the initial smell. This however is just my opinion and yours may be totally different. I would however buy Youth Dew as a gift for a family member or a friend who likes strong perfume as it would make a nice gift due to the feminine potion-like bottle and its great price. The well-known beauty brand name also adds to the appeal as a nice gift regardless of the recipients age.

Score

I score Estee Lauder youth dew perfume 6/10. The price is astounding for a such a good brand. The bottle is lovely with dress-like pleats in the design.  But as I base the score on the smell alone the score is I cannot give it a higher score as my in my personal opinion it is too strong for me. If I included the price and the bottle design it would get a score of 9.

Ingredients

  • Alcohol – This high-volatility solvent fluid liquefies the heavy fragrance compounds, enabling an evenly atomised mist distribution that instantly lifts off the skin upon application.
  • Parfum – This denotes the masterfully blended, secret combination of natural oils and synthetic aroma chemicals that determines the definitive character of the scent.
  • Aqua – This pristine water element serves to soften the drying intensity of the chemical base, preventing skin irritation while preserving the fluid equilibrium of the formula.
  • Benzyl Salicylate – This acts as a gentle, balsamic-sweet fixative that creates a smooth bridge between top notes and heart accords while providing an understated floral background.
  • Linalool – his infuses the opening layer with a clean, universally refreshing wood-floral character mimicking natural lavender blooms and bergamot peel.
  • Geraniol – This introduces a highly vibrant, sweet rose-petal facet layered with a crisp undertone of green leaves.
  • Hydroxycitronellal – This wraps the core bouquet in a soft, intensely dewy lily-of-the-valley texture that projects an air of timeless elegance.
  • Limonene – This yields a highly effervescent, zesty, and uplifting sweet orange citrus spark that defines the initial spray impression.
  • Eugenol – This introduces an intensely comforting, spicy, and deep clove-like warmth that cuts beautifully through the sweetness of the surrounding florals.
  • Coumarin – This lends a rich, balsamic depth that anchors the lingering trail in the cozy, nostalgic aroma of vanilla bean and toasted almonds.
  • Cinnamyl Alcohol – This radiates a soft, highly sophisticated balsamic-sweet cinnamon facet that deepens the overall complexity of the heart notes.
  • Hexyl Cinnamal – This contributes an exceptionally smooth, green-leaning jasmine profile that helps unify the various botanical notes.
  • Benzyl Alcohol – This introduces an unassuming, mildly sweet aromatic profile that doubles as a crucial preservative to keep the formulation pure over time.
  • Evernia Prunastri Extract – This genuine oakmoss derivative injects a sophisticated, ink-dark, and deeply complex forest-floor element that provides unparalleled structural staying power.
  • Citronellol – This reinforces the central floral themes by delivering an elegant, clean freshness reminiscent of crushed geraniums and morning roses.
  • Benzyl Benzoate – This serves as an invisible, heavy-molecule stabilizer that slows down the evaporation of lighter notes so the scent doesn’t fade prematurely.
  • Farnesol – This emits a remarkably delicate, airy green-floral whisper that mirrors the subtle scent of blossoming linden trees.
  • Citral – This delivers a sharp, exceptionally vibrant lemongrass kick that slices through the heavier base elements to keep the top layer crisp.
  • Isoeugenol – This breathes an exotic, sweet carnation-spice accent into the blend, giving the lingering trail a remarkably multi-dimensional finish.
  • Cinnamal – This punches a dry, fiercely warm cinnamon-bark note into the deeper layers, ensuring a highly impactful aromatic presence.
