Apple Iphone Duo
Is the iPhone Duo worth the money?
There has been much hype about Apple’s first flip phone with its pre-order date 16th October and the official release date being the 23rd October and one of the talking points is the price. Compared to the latest Samsung flip, the Galaxy Z Flip8, with the same basic storage 256GB, the Apple flip is priced around £300 more than its rival. Is the higher price justified?
Compare the iPhone Duo to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8
- The iPhone flip is considered more durable as it has a IP68 rating for dust and water resistance which means it can stay underground or underwater for 30 minutes at a depth of 6 metres in comparison to the Samsung’s IP48 rating which allows a similar time and depth for dust protection but is not as protected under water. No mobile device should be submerged in water as it will deteriorate over time. We are not all underwater sea divers and generally speaking it will refer more to those who work outdoors on rainy days and often get their screens a bit wet occasionally. Likewise, the dust protection may be helpful to those who work on building sites or renovating houses were dust may accumulate. Again, it’s probably referring to a bit of dust, not placing your phone on the floor next to a wall your about to sand with an electric sander! A bit of common sense should be used when reading about dust and water protection if you want your new iPhone flip to last a while. The Apple Duo also has a titanium frame and cover which enforces its durability and makes it less likely to crack if dropped.
- The Samsung flip has a slightly bigger screen size at 5.5 inches compared to the Apple flip at 5.4 inches when closed but the same size when open at 7.6 inches.
- The Apple flip has A20 Pro chips making it faster and better for AI computations and gaming graphics and improves the speed of apps and enhances the phones battery life. Samsung do not use these chips but use other chips but Apple wins on this point as its chips allow for sustained performance with the longer battery life, up to 31 hours of video playback compared to Samsung’s flip of 28 hours.
- With an anti-glare and anti-crease Apple flip beats the Samsung for the crease line as the Nano texture makes it almost invisible when open. The matte texture reduces the glare from bright lights better than the Samsung flip as Samsung uses an anti-reflective coating which is glossy unlike Apple’s matte Nano texture glass.
- The Samsung flip wins with its resolution having a maximum of 8K compared to Apple’s flip of maximum 4K. Apple prefers high quality Dolby vision whereas Samsung prefers a higher resolution in its flip phones.
- The Samsung flip is slightly lighter and thinner than the Apple flip. Whether this is better depends on personal preference.

Is the iPhone Duo worth the money?
Whether or not you think it is worth paying the extra money will very much depend on what you mainly use your mobile device for. Both the Samsung flip and the iPhone Duo have some great qualities. If you mainly use your phone for watching TV and films, reading books, listening to music, or gaming then the Apple flip may be best for you. But if you want a better screen resolution whilst watching TV the Samsung is ideal too.
If you multitask on your mobile device such as watch TV while browsing the web, watch YouTube on one side of the flip whilst using WhatsApp on the other side or, shopping on one side whist adding up the costs on the other side using your calculator app then the Samsung flip is best for you.
Think carefully about what you use your mobile for the most and then think about what is important to you. Perhaps you like the idea that you can get a bit water or dust on the flip phone without worry and think that may be useful to you due to working environment.
Personally, I think the Samsung flip is far better for image clarity and for videos that cannot match the iPhone’s capability looking at the specifications but, I find the iPhones in general are easier to use and I’m quite tech savvy. If you’re comfortable using one or the other I would stick to that brand. I know many people who switch brands then switch back again at some cost mainly for the image resolution. Go with what you know is my motto. I’m an Apple iPhone fan and used them from day one and if I had to choose, I would opt for the iPhone Duo over the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 but that is my personal choice and your you have to decide which flip phone is right for your use. They both have some extremely good qualities. I would suggest if you are not happy with the price wait a few months after they become available as the price will probably drop with various sales and offers. Or check out price on Amazon
