Wooden sheds usually need a more solid base like concrete which adds to the cost. Some wildlife like to shelter under wood so it does need to sealed tightly around the boundaries of the shed to stop mice and hedgehogs from burrowing beneath it.

Plastic Sheds
Plastic sheds are best for those who don’t want to spend a lot of money on storing their garden tools. They are budget friendly and don’t rot like wooden sheds can do so less maintenance is needed. Plastic sheds are much easier to assemble as the slat boards are much lighter than wood. Customising the interior is not as easy as wood as you will be drilling holes into plastic which does not have the strength of wood so you cannot add heavy shelving and put heavy garden tools on them as the plastic may not bear the weight like wood does.
If you go for a very lightweight plastic shed choose a strong one with a wider depth for strength as severe high winds could move the shed unlike a wooden shed. if you just want a shed to store a few cheap tools at the end of your garden a plastic shed may be the best for you. If you live close to the sea where high winds are frequent then the best shed for you would be a wooden or metal shed.

Metal Sheds
Metal sheds are strong and sturdy with very good security features. They can cheaper than wooden sheds and are good for keepings pests like mice out as metal is harder for them to bite through. Metal sheds have sharper edges to the panels which can feel sharp when handling. Metal can scratch easy when putting this in and out. They can sound tinny and noisy when heavy rainfall drops which could be annoying if your metal shed is below your bedroom window so bear this in mind. With global warming metal sheds are a good option as they are fire-proof but metal can get hot to the tough in scorching weather. Metal can dent if you accidently knock it with a garden tool so more care is needed when pulling your lawn mower in and out of the doors. You will need to use rubber washers when screwing in holes to prevent moisture getting through. Dampness could be a problem with the cold metal and the interior of the metal shed may feel pretty cold in the winter. You can counteract his by buying a metal shed with built in air vents to let moisture out. Lay the shed on a concrete base and put a damp-proof membrane down to prevent rising damp. If you want a shed just for storing garden tools and have a size garden where the metal shed can be placed several feet away from the house then a metal shed may be best for you. The doors on metal sheds tend to creak when opening and closing which can be annoying but this has the benefit of you being able to hear them open if anyone tries to break in to your shed.

A metal shed is best for you if you want security as you can easily attach padlocks to the doors for added security. If you want to a motorbike or ride-on mower or non-garden items such as products that you sell online perhaps then a metal shed may be best for you.
